What is IPL Hair removal?
IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light technology. It is an FDA and TGA-approved and patented form of treatment which has been shown to be both safe and effective. Only some skin tones can be treated with IPL and your therapist will adjust the IPL to suit your hair and skin type. We have different setting for all skin tones. At your consultation you will have a patch test, which allows us to select the right setting to achieve the best results possible, whilst ensuring the highest safety at all times. It's important to tell us if your skin is not its usual colour - for instance if you have a tan, or have had a recent reaction to something, as this can dramatically affect our ability to give you the best treatment.
HOW DOES IPL WORK? The laser emits light energy, which is absorbed by melanin in the hair. If in the right stage of growth, this causes the hair follicle to overheat and damages the bulb, preventing regrowth. The process is called Photothermolysis
WHERE ON MY BODY CAN I HAVE TREATMENT? Anywhere there is hair. IPL is safe and effective, even on sensitive areas.
IS IPL SAFE? Yes, IPL targets only the hair follicle, leaving the surrounding skin unharmed. You may experience some redness, but this should subside within 24 hours.
IS IPL PAINFUL? Our treatments are very gentle and virtually pain-free. Our treatments will never harm your skin. There may be a little redness, but this will fade within 24 hours.
HOW LONG WILL THE RESULTS LAST? Most of our clients see a permanent result of up to 90% reduction in hair growth. Results are dependent on hair type and colour and permanent hair reduction that lasts can be achieved.
WHAT IF MY SKIN IS NOT IT'S NATURAL COLOUR? Got a tan? Had a skin reaction to something? No problem, it’s just really important that you let us know, as this can make a difference when it comes to providing the best treatment.
WILL IPL HAIR REMOVAL FEEL THE SAME EVERY TIME? As you have more sessions, we target fewer and fewer follicles – so you’ll feel the laser less each time.
IS IPL HAIR REMOVAL EXPENSIVE? Compared to the cost of a lifetime’s shaving or waxing, laser hair removal sessions are great value for money. It's also important to remember that cheaper Laser Hair Removal doesn't always mean better or safe.
How many treatments will I need? A course of 4-6 treatments are highly recommended to achieve the best results which will be completed every 4-6 weeks apart.
IS IPL RIGHT FOR ME? Treatment is safe on all skin types and colours, so it’s suitable for anyone looking for permanent, silky-smooth results.
WHAT RESULTS WILL I SEE? The treatment is FDA approved to give permanent hair reduction of up to 90%. The darker your unwanted hair, the better it draws the energy of the laser beam to it, giving greater hair reduction. Your therapist will discuss your hair type and the results you can expect to see in your consultation.
IPL Skin Rejuvenation
This can treat a wide variety of skin problems. It can be used to remove red spots or diffuse redness and can help with acne or rosacea. IPL treatments can also help to smooth uneven skin texture, close large pores, and eliminate wrinkles by stimulating collagen growth.
THE RESULTS After one session your skin will feel plumper and the skin will feel more supported as well as a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. As the collagen production is always breaking down more than one treatment will be needed to achieve desired results. While IPL offers a long-lasting solution with the appearance and texture of your skin, it does not stop the ageing process, or the causes of other wear and tear to your skin. Therefore, it is not a permanent solution.
PRE-TREATMENT ADVICE Prior to treatment please let us know if you have recently been in the sun. We require a test patch to be performed 24hrs prior to the treatment. We also ask that you avoid any acid based productsincluding retinol, glycolic and salicylic acid for 1 week prior to the treatment (sometimes this can be up to 2 weeks for certain products).
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED? A course of 3-6 treatments are usually recommended to achieve the best results which will be completed every 2-4 weeks apart.
AFTERCARE We ask that you avoid going into warm or sunny climates for 2 weeks after the treatment and wear SPF daily. Your practitioner will go through individual aftercare recommendations on product usage but again we may advise to avoid acids for a period of time after treatment. Please also avoid the gym, saunas and steam rooms for up to 3 days after your treatment.

Q: How much downtime is there after treatments?
A: After the treatment your skin may feel a little flushed from the heat of the stimulation of the collagen. We can apply mineral make up for yourself in clinic and you can return to your normal day.
Q: Are laser skin treatments safe?
A: Lasers have been used for many years safely and effectively. The lasers we use at destination skin are approved by the FDA for their use.
Q: How do I know if I’m suitable?
A: Upon consultation we will be able to tailor a treatment plan for your individual needs and will be able to ensure you are suitable. If you are pregnant you cannot have treatment until the baby is born.
Q: What does the treatment feel like? A: The treatment feels like a warming sensation that feels like your lying on a beach in the Caribbean! Lots of clients ask if it’s painful and the answer is NO! It’s a really lovely treatment to have.
Q: How quickly will I notice results?
A: Results can often be seen immediately after treatment however some of the results can take a number of weeks to show as the collagen production takes time to form and to come to the surface of the skin.
